Shelby McKie | Poem | Published Spring 2015

A city well known but hides multiple secrets
how the people traveling through do stop and stare
but never see the depths of beauty it beholds
or how at night people start to quicken their pace
the people see, of course, what is just in plain sight
how the early evening sun shines in the air
reflecting off the buildings and cars in the street
or how in day people sing in wide open space
what they don't see are the ones not causing a fight
because what else would people want to see these days
keeping calm and carrying on, plain and simple
like the way it's written underneath the staircase
a city of prosper 'cause Bostonians care
just keep pushing and fighting and succeed they might
